INSIDE/OUTSIDE, 1977–80

Some projects from the late 1970s attempted to disrupt the anonymous, repetitive international style by reinstating an architecture that could “communicate”. Endowing architectural objects with formal elements from educated memory (in postmodern vein) is a design practice that La Pietra championed by bringing formal elements from the domestic interior to the exterior, on the front of the house. This operation alludes to overcoming the public-private barrier, theme that is also investigate in his setting up at Milan Triennale (Fairy lights), in Linz’s performance and in his research about the storefronts (the image of the city).
